Alley-McKay House Bed & Breakfast Inn
306 E Delta St, Jefferson, Texas 75657 - 800.468.2627

Our Philosophy

We run our bed and breakfast a little differently than most. We take a very casual, laid-back approach to innkeeping and activities around the house. We always want you to have a good time; to relax; to recuperate; to celebrate; and to have fun.

We realize that things happen, and thus the need for pages like this one. Even though we dislike them.

We are an informal inn, with few rules. This means you can come to the dining room for coffee in your fuzzy slippers; you don’t have to put your lipstick on for breakfast; but if you want us to bring out the silver and fine china to impress your loved one, we will be more than happy. We are here to serve you, not to make you feel uncomfortable.

Our policies page is not meant to hinder, and we welcome questions, comments and strive to resolve any complaints to everyone’s satisfaction.

We can be reached by email at innkeeper@mckayhouse.com or by phone at 800.468.2627 from 8 a.m until 8 p.m. every day. Sometimes you can find us on Skype as McKayHouseBnB or on Yahoo! or Gmail as mckayhousebnb.

If you’ve tried to locate the Alley-McKay House by using an online map such as Yahoo! or Google! and obtain driving directions, you may discover some problems when you reach Jefferson. Jefferson’s an old city and some streets were never paved and, as such, have overgrown and no longer connect to other streets. East Delta Street is one of these.

Below are verbal directions as well as a modified map showing where we are located and providing you with instructions for reaching the Alley-McKay House. Of course, if you have problems, feel free to call us anytime and we’ll talk you to us.

Policies

The following are the general guidelines of the house:

  1. BulletNo Smoking except on the balconies & porches or in the gardens. Please use the ashtrays provided - not the plants.

  2. BulletWe are family friendly. This means children of all ages are welcome. Ask us about which rooms are best for accommodating children. Certain rooms are better for infants and smaller children to distance them from other guests who may be trying to have a weekend away from their children. Children are counted as an additional person. We assume your child is eating breakfast. If not, then a different rate may apply. We offer either the same breakfast or a bowl of cereal for children under 10. However, we must know in advance if the cereal option or no breakfast is desired for your child.

  3. BulletAsk us about pet accommodations as all rooms are not pet friendly. Small pets (under 12 pounds) are welcome as long as you follow a few simple rules. Keep your pet with you and on a leash during your stay. Do not bring your pet to the breakfast table or dining room. Clean up after your pet: we do not have a dog, so leavings need to be picked-up. Keep in mind not all guests are pet lovers. There is a 1 (ONE) pet per room limit.

  4. BulletThe Spinning Room (Parlors) can be a two bedroom suite. Normal booking assumes you want just the one room for up to two adults. If you desire the second room, then there are additional charges, even if there are only two adults. There are additional charges for a third person, even if that person is a child. The charge covers clean-up, which is the same for an adult or a child, (We have to wash all the bed linens regardless) as well as the food. Often we have children partake in more candy and cokes and cookies than our adult guests! It is not just about the space on the bed or the breakfast. There is a maximum of 3 people in this set of rooms.

  5. Bullet If you wonder if “That’s Allowed,” chances are it is, but feel free to ask, we’re not going to make you feel silly for asking. A good rule of thumb is to just be considerate of others.

  6. BulletFirearms. Please leave them at home or securely locked in your vehicle. There is no need to shoot the cook.

If you experience a problem during your stay, please let us know as we cannot attempt to correct the problem during your stay without being made aware of the problem. Notification of the problem after your departure and agreement to the charges for your stay will be discussed with you and a resolution sought. Refunds will not be issued in this situation. Credit for a future stay may be offered. Credit issued must be redeemed within one (1) year of the original stay. Credit may be issued in the form of a Gift Certificate or just noted on your account.

Chargeback attempts for unsatisfactory stay or in addition to credit being issued will be treated as felony theft of services and prosecuted to the full extent of the law. These situations will be handed over to the District Attorney’s Office of Marion County, Texas.

American Express Cards
Currently, we do accept American Express. However, if you wish to use your American Express card to pay for your lodging, please note that some additional paperwork will be required upon check-in and check-out. This means that a speedy check-in and check-out is not available to our American Express customers. We regret having to require these guests to sign additional materials, but American Express requires the guests signature on the following items:

  1. Bullet Registration Card upon arrival

  2. Bullet All pages of Inn Policies and Procedures

  3. Bullet Guest Account of charges

  4. Bullet Charge slip agreeing to charges

  5. Bullet Imprint of your American Express Card

Other credit card companies accept a notice of the guest accepting the policies of the inn and this paperwork is not required. Again, we apologize for the inconveniences this causes our American Express customers.
