From Our Guests...

Friends Retreat

If ever you need life to slow a bit,

There is a porch where you can sit.

And listen to the soft night sounds,

As darkness falls over this small town.

Call upon a friend with whom you can share,

This elegant home from a bygone era.

Upon the porch you two may sit and talk,

Or survey the town’s shops on a good long walk.

This porch belongs to a grand old house,

Whose welcoming spirit has enfolded us.

The floors are wood, the walls are papered,

The quiet ambiance strains to be savored.

So rare are our opportunities to meet,

Without them our kindred spirits incomplete,

Not even the drenching rains can dampen,

These precious moments as they happen.

We friends treasure these memories most dear,

As they must sustain us for another long year.

Even as we prepare to leave this lovely place,

We will look back fondly upon these days.

Written while staying at Alley-McKay House.

What a wonderful experience we have had at the McKay House as well as Jefferson. Darla your breakfasts were delicious as well as beautifully served. Hugh, what do we say about you! You were such a gracious host and we enjoyed your story telling and all the neat history stories you provided. Darla, thank you for the recipes and a heartfelt thank you for making us feel so at home. We hope to see you again someday.

Thanks for such warm hospitality! I think my friend said it best when I posted details on Facebook about my stay that included taking my glass of wine for a walk, the porch swing, and eating caramel cake in the claw-foot tub. She wrote, “When did you pass? It sounds like you are in heaven!” Amen.

Thank you for the wonderful visit. I hated to leave! I honestly wished that I could stay forever! You should change the name to the Heavenly House.
