Friends Retreat
If ever you need life to slow a bit,
There is a porch where you can sit.
And listen to the soft night sounds,
As darkness falls over this small town.
Call upon a friend with whom you can share,
This elegant home from a bygone era.
Upon the porch you two may sit and talk,
Or survey the town’s shops on a good long walk.
This porch belongs to a grand old house,
Whose welcoming spirit has enfolded us.
The floors are wood, the walls are papered,
The quiet ambiance strains to be savored.
So rare are our opportunities to meet,
Without them our kindred spirits incomplete,
Not even the drenching rains can dampen,
These precious moments as they happen.
We friends treasure these memories most dear,
As they must sustain us for another long year.
Even as we prepare to leave this lovely place,
We will look back fondly upon these days.
